During the meeting the Heads of the both Offices discussed issues of mutual interest in the fight against crime. They emphasized the importance of joint actions of the Russian and Swiss law-enforcement agencies in combating corruption, transnational crime, money laundering (legalization) of proceeds of crime, human trafficking, trafficking in counterfeit goods.
They also touched upon extradition, provision of legal assistance in criminal matters, improvement forms of interagency co-operation, signature and ratification of multilateral international treaties of mutual interest to the parties. The Swiss party welcomed the Russian initiative on updating the effective European Conventions on Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.
The Heads of both Offices agreed to hold consultations on a regular basis, exchange delegations and sign a separate Agreement on Co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Federal Department of Justice of the Swiss Confederation.
The Agreement is anticipated to include rules and provisions ensuring prompt and efficient execution of international enquiries and requests for extradition, which will result in more efficient fight against transnational organized crime.
Both counterparts expressed their satisfaction with further active development of mutual co-operation.
