Today Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika has met with Prosecutor General of the Kingdom of Sweden Mr. Fredrik Wersäll.
Yuri Chaika and Fredrik Wersäll noted the improved co-operation between Russia and Sweden and agreed to further develop it and to co-operate more closely with international organizations including Eurojust.
During the meeting the two colleagues have thoroughly discussed issues and possibilities of further co-operation.
Yuri Chaika and Fredrik Wersäll focused on the tasks in combating crime. The parties focused on organized crime, terrorism, drug and human trafficking, violation of environmental legislation.
They identified the priority areas of further co-operation both within the “Greater Europe”, the Council of the Baltic Sea States and within bilateral area, agreed to accelerate the process of updating the European Conventions.
The participants of the dialogue agreed on the necessity to hold on a regular basis conferences, round tables and consultations on issues of mutual interest thus enhancing the efficiency of joint work.
During the meeting, the Prosecutors General agreed to establish in the shortest possible time contact points and to get into the issue of signing a bilateral Agreement on Co-operation in the criminal law field in order to promptly execute international requests for legal assistance.
During the meeting, Yuri Chaika handed over the draft of that Agreement to Fredrik Wersäll. They also agreed to hold correspondence in the languages of both countries – Russian and Swedish thus significantly accelerating many procedural questions.
