At the invitation of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Boris Velchev paid an official visit to Moscow.
Today during the meeting at the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation they have discussed interagency co-operation.
In his speech of welcome, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation acquainted his Bulgarian colleagues with the priority areas of work of the Russian prosecution authorities and noted that the main priority was the protection of human rights and interests of citizens.
Yuri Chaika highly appreciated positive co-operation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria in the criminal law field. “Besides bilateral co-operation the two countries co-operate within the international organizations such as the United Nations, Council of Europe and International Association of Prosecutors”, noted the Prosecutor General of Russia in his speech.
Yuri Chaika also underlined that Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia paid great attention to international co-operation because it was the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation which, according to the international treaties and the current federal law, was a competent body co-operating with foreign law-enforcement authorities in extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
In his turn, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Boris Velchev thanked his Russian colleagues for the invitation to visit Russia and said that he highly appreciated joint work of the prosecution authorities of Russia and Bulgaria settling a number of legal issues.
Moreover, Boris Velchev highly appreciated the organization and the results of work of the Russian Prosecution Service and expressed his hope for comprehensive assistance from the Russian side provided to their Bulgarian colleagues in the fight against corruption, money laundering, drug trafficking and cyber-crime.
Yuri Chaika shared the experience of co-operation between the Russian Prosecution Service and the law-enforcement authorities of other countries and noted the necessity of mutual co-ordination of actions on the international arena.
Yuri Chaika and Boris Velchev agreed to elaborate a uniform program on organization of joint workshops and to complete a draft Agreement on Co-operation between the two Offices.
At the end of the meeting, Yuri Chaika expressed hope for further efficient co-operation in the criminal law field and thanked his Bulgarian colleagues for timely consideration of the Russian requests for extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.
