Today Attorney General of the Russian Federation Yuriy Chayka has met with General Prosecutor of Turkmenistan Muhammedkuli Okshukov.
In his welcoming speech, Yuri Chaika marked the traditionally friendly nature of the Russian-Turkmen relations, which is significantly contributed by the near positions on major international issues. He stressed that the interaction between the Russian and Turkmen prosecution and other law enforcement agencies in their war on international terror and other manifestations of extremism, organized crime, illegal weapons and drugs trafficking and other most dangerous types of crimes was one of the main components of our agencies’ partnership.
'Both Russian and Turkmen prosecution authorities have a common history. Our powers have much in common, too. The prosecution authorities of our two countries are facing the same challenges. Among them is first of all protection of rights and freedoms of man and citizen, and combating crime,” said Yuriy Chayka.
The Russian Attorney General stressed the active development of cooperation between the General Prosecutor's Offices of Russia and Turkmenistan in the field of legal assistance in criminal cases and extradition of persons accused of grave offences and felonies. By now, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation has carried out over 90% of applications for legal assistance in criminal cases received from Turkmenistan in 2006-2007.
In conclusion, Attorney General of the Russian Federation expressed hope for closer cooperation between the two agencies, including in the framework of the Coordinating Council of Attorney Generals of the CIS member states.
