In order to prevent violations of laws and constitutional rights of citizens of the Russian Federation, the Attorney General Yuriy Chayka issued an decree 'On organization of prosecutorial control over legislation observance during the elections of President of the Russian Federation'.
Public prosecutors were ordered to ensure proper function of interdepartmental groups created with participation of representatives of law enforcement agencies and government authorities to ensure timely detection and suppression of offences in the area of electoral legislation, operational analysis of the incoming information on the status of the law and exchange, organization of interaction with the electoral commissions.
Public prosecutors should also pay particular attention to compliance with the laws in the formation of electoral commissions, preparation of voter lists, collecting signatures from voters, the nomination of candidates, the conduct of the pre-election campaign, campaign financing.
At the time of the election campaign in order to ensure timely consideration of complaints within time frame prescribed by law and at the weekend there are office hours designated for reception of citizens. In identifying violations of the electoral legislation prosecutors should ensure the timely application of the set of prosecutorial measures.
The Attorney General of the Russian Federation Yuriy Chayka demanded that his subordinates during the federal election campaign pay special attention to the prevention of extremist and terrorist acts and take immediate measures of prosecutorial response to prevent and combat any illegal activities that hinder the elections.
