Today, upon the request of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Ghana are deporting to Russia a citizen of the Russian Federation Andrey Valasis. He is accused of committing crimes foreseen by parts 2 and 3 of article 159 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
The criminal case against Valasis is in the execution stage of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation on Mozdok district of the Republic of Northern Ossetia-Alania.
It is determined by the investigation that in July 2006 Valasis offered to a number of citizens to buy wheat at a price below the market one in the amount of 100 tons per 350 thousand roubles. The received monetary funds were appropriated by him and disposed at his own discretion, and then he disappeared.
In May 2008 Valasis was declared in the federal search and in January 2009 he was placed into the international wanted list.
In March 2012 the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation forwarded to the Ministry of justice (the General Prosecutor's office) of the Republic of Ghana an extradition request for Valasis.
Despite the absence of a bilateral extradition treaty between Russia and Ghana as well as due to well coordinated work of the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the NCB of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, today Andrey Valasis is deported from the territory of Ghana to Russia with the purpose of subsequent conveyance to the place of preliminary investigation.
