Today in the city of Moscow it was held a meeting, between Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chayka and the Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles Roni Govindenom, during which for the first time in the history of the departments of the two countries it was signed a Memorandum of mutual understanding.
The meeting was attended by the leading officers of the General Prosecutor's office as well as the Chief Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles Clement Potter.
Welcoming the guests, Yury Chayka thanked Roni Govindenom for the visit particularly emphasizing that the positions of Russia and the Republic of Seychelles have a lot of points of contact on many international issues not only in the field of culture and education but also in the law enforcement sphere. The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation stressed - «We together strive for strengthening of legislation, law-and-order and appropriate protection of rights and interests of the citizens of our countries». He also noted that the fight against criminality which does not acknowledge state borders, the activities for protection of the rights and legal interests of citizens should be implemented integrally on the basis of existing international agreements and national legislation.
Yury Chayka and Roni Govindenom have signed a Memorandum of understanding between the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles which provides for cooperation in such priority directions as extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters as well as training and improvement of professional skills of employees of Prosecutor's offices of both countries.
As it was emphasized by Yury Chayka, the act of signing of the Memorandum and its subsequent implementation will allow exchanging of experiences and necessary information that ultimately improve the efficiency of activities of both the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation as well as of the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles on the implementation of the functions they are entrusted with.
The Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles Roni Govindenom agreed with the opinion that the strengthening of the legal base of cooperation will contribute to the strengthening of mutual cooperation between law enforcement authorities of the two countries. He expressed gratitude for the support which is given by the Russian Federation to the Republic of Seychelles in the fight against sea piracy.
Yury Chayka, in his turn, have stressed that the General Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation is closely involved in the problem of attraction of sea pirates to criminal responsibility. In particular, jointly with other interested countries the issues of creation of an international criminal tribunal is under development stage.
The Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles supported the idea of establishing the international criminal tribunal against sea pirates and expressed willingness to join this work.
In conclusion Yury Chaika and Roni Govindenom sated strong focusing towards all-round deepening and development of Russian-Seychellois relations.
