Today, August 28, 2014, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika held a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation Emilio Lozada Garcia.
High ranking officials of the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Republic of Cuba have participated in the meeting as well.
Welcoming his guest Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Chaika noted that the Russian Federation and Republic of Cuba have a long history of friendly and warm relations, based on mutual interest in strengthening of international security and enhancing of strategic partnership.
“We interact actively, not only on bilateral basis, but also within the framework of international organizations, in particular in the area of law enforcement,” underlined Yury Chaika.
Signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation and of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Republic of Cuba has significantly increased the level of inter-agency cooperation. Just over the past two years the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation organized 17 events involving Cuban colleagues, successfully carried out Bilateral Cooperation Programme 2012-2013. Additionally, Russian and Cuban prosecutors shared working experiences and discussed the most pressing issues of their professional duties during meetings, seminars and round tables.
At present the Cooperation Programme 2015-2016 texts are harmonized.
Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation expressed a firm belief that implementing activities identified in this Programme will further strengthen cooperation in the area of protection of human rights and crime prevention.
In his turn, Emilio Lozada Garcia thanked Yury Chaika for warm welcome and noted that cooperation of the Prosecutorial Offices of the two countries is highly relevant to the Republic of Cuba. He expressed particular gratitude for organizing professional development training for 10 high ranking officials of Cuban Prosecutorial Offices, that currently takes place in the Academy of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of Cuba in the Russian Federation underlined that such events carried out within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement contribute to promotion and strengthening of inter-agency cooperation, and to deepening and development of relations between Russia and Cuba.
He took this opportunity to invite Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation to attend 12th International Criminal Law Conference which will take place on 25-28 November, 2014 in Havana. Yury Chaika gave his primary consent for participating in this event.
In conclusion, the parties expressed confidence that the meeting will enhance effectiveness of professional relations and promote dialogue on the wide range of matters.
