On Extradition to Russia from Germany of the Russian and Greek Citizen Pavel Leonov, Who Is Accused of Committing the Fatal Traffic Accident while Intoxicated

Today, on March 06, 2015, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany extradite the Russian and Greek citizen Pavel Leonov to the Russian Federation.

The investigative authorities accused him of committing a crime under Article 264 Part 4 (violation of traffic regulations by a person driving a car, in a state of intoxication, resulting in the serious harm to human health and death through negligence) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The criminal case against Leonov is proceeded in the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Aleksandrovsky district.

The investigation established that in October 2011, during the night in Aleksandrovskoye village, the Stavropol Territory, Pavel Leonov while intoxicated driving his father’s car VAZ-2107 drove into oncoming traffic and collided with a car VAZ-2104, which resulted in killing one passenger and serious harm to another passenger’s health.

In May 2012, the criminal case against Leonov was sent to the Aleksandrovsky District Court of the Stavropol Territory. However Leonov broke measure in the form on his own recognizance not to leave, and disappeared from the judicial authorities, and therefore in August 2012 he was put on the federal wanted list, and in September 2013 he was put on the international wanted list.

In September 2013 the location of Leonov was established in Greece, but the presence of his Greek citizenship did not allow carrying out the extradition procedure.

In October 2014 the accused person was arrested in Germany.

In November 2014, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation sent to the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany the extradition request against Leonov, which was settled in February 2015.

Accompanied by a special escort Pavel Leonov will be delivered from Frankfurt am Main to Moscow.
