At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Arab Republic of Egypt extradited Vladimir Gukalenko. He is accused of committing a crime, provided for in Article 291 part 4 paragraph “a” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (giving a bribe by a group of persons in preliminary conspiracy).
According to the investigation, in March-April 2018, the entrepreneur agreed on giving a bribe to a border service official for the opportunity to freely allow the pass of the vehicles with sanctioned products to the territory of Russia through the border with the Republic of Belarus.
As Gukalenko fled from the law enforcement authorities, a restrictive measure in the form of taking into custody was selected against him in absentia, and subsequently he was put on the international wanted list.
A request for extradition of the accused was sent due to his detention in the territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Due to the coordinated actions of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and organized close interaction with the competent authorities of Egypt, a positive decision on extradition of the person involved was achieved.
The Federal Penitentiary Service and the NCB Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia were entrusted to receive and deliver Gukalenko to the territory of the Russian Federation.
